Stay Safe During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Take the First Step
End Depression, Anxiety, Addiction
During the pandemic, I offer therapy both in person and via teleconferencing. My office allows for proper social distancing. I work with individuals, couples and whole families to help guide you so you can find balance, relieve emotional pain, end addition, and resolve conflict in your relationships. It is possible in therapy to heal, to recover, to learn new ways of finding happiness and relief. Therapy is an effective way to treat and resolve depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, grief, and other emotional conditions that cause distress.
I offer multiple styles of therapy and will tailor our sessions to fit you. You are in charge of what is and is not discussed. In addition to the well-known talk therapy, I offer EMDR therapy which is very helpful for treating the symptoms of PTSD, anxiety and depression. I also offer sand tray and art therapy (for kids and adults).
My practice is also very 12 step friendly for those in AA, NA, Alanon, Adult Children of Alcoholics, SLAA, SAA, DA, OA and more.
I commit to being there for you with an open heart, without judgment, and with a sense of humor when appropriate. My goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, recover and move forward to where you want to be in your life. You decide what to discuss on any given day. You decide how often to attend therapy. This is your life and you do know what you need, somewhere deep inside.
Depression and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable mental health challenges that we can experience in our lives. Common signs of depression include persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed, fatigue, feeling worthless, feeling irritable, trouble concentrating or making decisions, changes in appetite and sleep patterns (too much or too little), and of course suicidal thoughts. Anxiety symptoms can include feeling restless or fatigued, having racing thoughts, excessive worry, irritability, difficulty concentrating, difficulty sleeping. There is an overlap of symptoms with depression and anxiety, and one can have both.
Common attempts to cope with anxiety or depression can include drinking too much, doing drugs or acting out in ways that give short term relief without addressing the underlying causes. These can become larger problems than the anxiety or depression.
PTSD or post-traumatic stress disorder, occurs with many people who have experienced a traumatic event. Intrusive memories, nightmares, feeling hyper-vigilant, jumpy, or like you have to avoid people or places that could remind you of of the traumatic event are all symptoms of PTSD.
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is an effective, short-term treatment that I offer either alone or in conjunction with traditional talk-therapy. EMDR is very effective: Some studies show that 84%-90% of single-trauma victims no longer have post-traumatic stress disorder after only three 90-minute sessions. EMDR, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain. EMDR is also effective for anxiety, depression, unresolved grief, addictions and other symptoms.
Relationships are hard. Let me say that again. Relationships are hard. Living with other people will always present challenges. I offer supportive couples therapy for conflicted couples-whether you are looking to stay together, or bring the relationship to an end.
I also offer co-parenting therapy for couples with children who are not together. Communication and listening skills are key to successful relationships including co-parenting. Many couples are surprised how quickly long-term conflicts can be resolved.
I love teenagers. I work with teens and preteens who are on an emotional roller coaster navigating the challenges of growing up in today's world, maybe living in two homes, engaging in defiant behaviors, drinking, doing drugs (yes weed is a drug) and doing what they think is best, regardless of their caregivers' best efforts.
